Bermuda has long been an alluring winter choice for Canadians and people in the northern U.S.  because it’s as simple as packing a bag, hopping on a flight, and being wheels down in no time. Plus, between the great resorts, beautiful beaches, and awesome golf courses, it offers most of the same perks as the popular Caribbean islands, but without the longer flights and larger crowds. If more people are flocking here this holiday season, though, the culprit might be Cambridge Beaches Resort and Spa.

Opened in 1923, this 23-acre resort sits on a stunning peninsula on Bermuda’s western curl and boasts four private beaches and ocean views that will leave guests downright captivated. But what everyone will be talking about now is the complete reimagination of the entire property, from the freestanding pink cottages to the dining concepts, all while still incorporating the historical and architectural elements that date as far back as the 17th century.

The resort’s owner, Dovetail + Co, partnered with NYC designer Kellyann Hee to give the 86 rooms a chic makeover, blending tropical tones and accents with modern Bermudian art. Cambridge Beaches boasts eight types of accommodations, from the Classic Waterview to the Three Bedroom Water View Cottage, and now more than ever the cottage concept lets guests enjoy even more privacy in paradise.

On the culinary side, the resort teamed with superstar restaurateur and mixologist St. John Frizell, whose New York establishments have earned rave reviews. Fittingly, his Sunken Harbor Club now comes to Bermuda, where he teams with the resort’s Executive Chef Keith DeShields on a menu that is rooted in island tradition, including old family recipes, but also offering unique dishes that fuse Caribbean and Portuguese flavors.

The resort’s other offerings include Breezes and the poolside Pastel, and every restaurant is accessible by land and water so locals can get in on the action as well.

As for activities and amenities, the word “boredom” isn’t in this resort’s dictionary. In addition to the four private beaches, guests will fall in love with the two secluded coves and access to some of the best fishing anywhere in the world, not to mention the island’s superb golf courses. On property, an infinity-edge pool serves up the best views of Mangrove Bay, while the massive fitness center makes a great way to start the day before heading to the spa to wind down.

If the desire to escape the cold weather isn’t enough to see the renovations in person, Cambridge Beaches is also offering a pair of “Winter Wonderland” deals. Families can book the two-bedroom suite, with the cottage decorated for the occasion, and enjoy a variety of holiday perks including presents under the tree. Couples will appreciate a more intimate setting in a one-bedroom suite with similar spoils.
