“Time flies” is kind of the message of Everybody Wants Some!!, Richard Linklater’s 2016 bittersweet college comedy about life in the baseball dugout and the fleeting moments between freshman thrills and graduation. Now it’s already time for the 10th anniversary of the film, with not one but two special screenings at AFS Cinema, presented by Linklater himself, on March 22.
Much as Dazed and Confused was inspired by Linklater’s own experiences in high school, so this “spiritual sequel” has some seriously autobiographical elements, centering on life on a college baseball team where most everyone knows they don’t have a pro future but at least they can have some fun.
The night will begin with a VIP screening at 5pm with a pre-screening reception, with a second screening beginning at 6pm. Both will feature a post-screening Q&A with writer/director Linklater and stars/Linklater regulars Glen Powell (Hit Man, The Running Man, How to Make a Killing) and Zoey Deutch (Nouvelle Vague, Set it Up), with more guests to be added.
Tickets for both screenings go on sale for AFS Make, Watch, and Love level members at noon on Thursday, Feb. 26, and then go on sale to the general public at noon on Friday, Feb. 27. Head to austinfilm.org for more details.
