Behind the Fight for the Throne at the Texas Renaissance Festival
The Texas Renaissance Festival, in the woods northwest of Houston, is the nation’s largest attraction of its kind by attendance, drawing half a million visitors each year to a bygone fantasy land of jousting, knights, and handmade clothes and trinkets. After dark, the festival’s campgrounds offer an escape of another sort, with late-night dancing and ribald party games.Last year, the death of George Coulam, who led the festival since its founding in 1974, set in motion a complicated succession battle.
