Not exactly the healthiest salad out there, it typically consisted of shredded iceberg lettuce; bland, out-of-season diced tomatoes; questionable chili-seasoned ground beef; and tons of shredded cheese. All this was contained in the iconic deep-fried flour tortilla shell. For all its flaws, I still adore the taco salad, which over the years was edged off menus by, you know, actual salads.
