PregameIt’s been decades since I’ve had a pint of ale for breakfast, but it’s ten in the morning on June 17, World Cup game day, and The Londoner pub, in Arlington, is vibrating from the internal combustion of a critical mass of English soccer fans. For most of them, it’s their first time in Texas, and they’re loving it. The friendly people! The energy! The Fort Worth Stockyards! The nachos and chicken wings and barbecue—and Buc-ees! One of the pub’s sister locations, at Mockingbird Station in Dallas, had sold five thousand pints of beer the night before, a record my new mates are determined to top. The whole pub is singing “Rule, Britannia,” which segues into “Wonderwall,” “Hey Jude,” and then, to my surprise, “Sweet Caroline.”…
